National Readiness & Defense is committed to providing a professional, safe, and respectful learning environment for all students and instructors. This Student Safety & Conduct Policy outlines the expectations for participation in any training, class, event, or program offered by NRD.
All students must review and agree to this policy prior to attending any training.
1. Commitment to Safety
Safety is the highest priority in all National Readiness & Defense training programs. Every student is responsible for maintaining a safe learning environment for themselves and others.
Students must follow all instructions provided by instructors and staff at all times.
Failure to follow safety instructions may result in immediate removal from the class without refund.
2. Firearms Safety Requirements
For any course involving firearms or live-fire training, the following safety rules must always be followed:
The Four Fundamental Firearms Safety Rules
- Treat every firearm as if it is loaded.
Always assume a firearm is loaded and handle it accordingly. - Never point the muzzle at anything you are not willing to destroy.
Maintain strict muzzle discipline at all times. - Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot.
Your finger should remain outside the trigger guard until you are on target and ready to fire. - Be sure of your target and what is beyond it.
Positively identify your target and ensure a safe backstop.
Additional range commands and procedures will be provided by instructors and must be followed immediately and without hesitation.
3. Safe Handling of Equipment
Students must handle all equipment safely and responsibly, including but not limited to:
- Firearms
- Ammunition
- Medical equipment
- Training tools
- Communication devices
- Protective equipment
Unauthorized handling of firearms or equipment during classroom instruction or outside designated training times is strictly prohibited.
4. Instructor Authority
All instructors and staff members have full authority over safety procedures during training.
Students must:
- Follow instructor commands immediately
- Ask questions if unsure about instructions
- Stop all actions if a safety concern is identified
Instructors may remove any student who:
- Demonstrates unsafe firearm handling
- Ignores safety instructions
- Disrupts training operations
- Creates a hazardous situation
5. Behavior and Professional Conduct
National Readiness & Defense promotes a respectful learning environment.
Students are expected to:
- Treat instructors, staff, and fellow students with respect
- Maintain professional and responsible behavior
- Avoid disruptive or aggressive conduct
- Follow all facility rules and regulations
Harassment, intimidation, or threatening behavior will not be tolerated.
6. Prohibited Conduct
The following behaviors are strictly prohibited during any NRD training:
- Unsafe firearm handling
- Handling firearms when instructed not to
- Horseplay or reckless behavior
- Use of alcohol or illegal drugs before or during training
- Disrupting instruction
- Violating range rules or facility policies
- Refusal to follow instructor directions
Violation of these rules may result in immediate removal from training without refund.
7. Alcohol, Drugs, and Impairment
Students may not participate in training while under the influence of:
- Alcohol
- Illegal drugs
- Impairing medications
Instructors may remove any student who appears impaired or unable to safely participate in training.
Safety is always the priority.
8. Required Safety Gear
Students must use required safety equipment when participating in certain classes, including:
For firearms training:
- Eye protection
- Hearing protection
- Appropriate clothing (closed-toe shoes recommended)
Additional equipment requirements may be provided prior to the class.
Students who arrive without required safety gear may be unable to participate.
9. Medical and Physical Considerations
Students should inform instructors of any medical conditions that may impact their participation in training.
Examples may include:
- Mobility limitations
- Injuries
- Medical conditions requiring emergency attention
Participation in training activities is voluntary, and students are responsible for monitoring their own physical limitations.
10. Emergency Situations
In the event of an emergency:
- Students must immediately follow instructor commands
- Training may be halted
- Medical personnel or emergency services may be contacted
Students are expected to assist only if directed by instructors.
11. Property and Equipment Responsibility
Students are responsible for their personal equipment and property.
National Readiness & Defense is not responsible for:
- Lost or stolen items
- Damage to personal property
- Equipment malfunctions not provided by instructors
12. Photography and Media
Students may occasionally appear in photos or videos used for training or promotional purposes.
Students who prefer not to appear in media should notify instructors prior to the start of class.
13. Removal from Training
National Readiness & Defense reserves the right to remove any student from training for:
- Unsafe behavior
- Violation of safety rules
- Disruptive conduct
- Failure to follow instructor direction
Removal from training may occur without refund when safety is compromised.
14. Agreement to Policy
By registering for or attending any National Readiness & Defense training, students acknowledge that they:
- Have read and understand this Student Safety & Conduct Policy
- Agree to follow all instructor directions
- Understand that safety violations may result in removal from training
